SECRETARY-GENERAL EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER ISRAELI AIR
STRIKES IN LEBANON AND APPEALS FOR
IMMEDIATE CESSATION
OF ALL HOSTILE ACTS '.

         The foIIowing statement was made today by the Spokesman for the Secretary - General:

         The Secretary-General has learnt with deep concern of the Israeli air strikes today in Lebanon.

         He urgently appeals for an immediate cessation of all hostile acts and urges all parties to exercise the maximum restraint so that the cease-fire, which has generally held since July 1981, can be fully restored and maintained.

         With this objective in view, the Secretary-General has been in urgent contact with all concerned.

         Le President du Conseil de securite alarme par les nouvelles relatives a I'aggra- vation de Ia situation au Liban, a Ia suite de recents acerochages, exprime sa preoc- cupation personnelle face a cette situation et invite les parties concernees a faire preuve du maximum de retenue dans cette region particulierement troublee et a re- specter Ie cesez-le-feu instaure depuis juillet 1981.
