with Chairman Arafat, but that he was encountering difficulties in reaching him In the meantime, the Permanent Observer of the Palestinian Liberation Organization to the United Nations, Mr. Terzi, conveyed to the Secretary-General a message from Chairman Arafat informing the Secretary-General of the PLO's acceptance of the text of the resolution. The message added that PLO would do its utmost to co-operate with United Naions Observers in accordance with paragraph 2 of the resolution.

         7. The Chairman of ILMAC, who is in Beirut, has reported that from his preliminary observations on the ground, the cease-fire appeared to be holding as of 2400 hours local time, 1 August 1982.

         8. General Erskine is pursuing actively his efforts to give speedy effect to the Security Council resolution. The Secretary-General will of course keep the Council currently informed of further developments.
